Program Details
As you may already know, IFS occurs during the three weeks right before the start of the fall semester. Each student enrolls in one of our specially designed courses that cover topics such as graphic novels, criminal justice, sports and violence, politics, biology, law, philosophy, and civil rights. IFS courses are taught by some of IU's top faculty members, so you'll learn from the best professors in small classrooms, with enrollment limited to just 20 students.
IFS is a challenging academic program, but it's also a lot of fun. There's time to spend outside of the classroom, making friends, finding your way around campus, working out, shopping, exploring Bloomington, or just relaxing. Many structured social, cultural, and educational events are planned each week such as outdoor movies, a trip to the opera, pool parties, and community service programs (see Life at IFS for more details).
One of the biggest advantages of IFS is the opportunity to become familiar with IU before the rest of the students arrive. More than 38,000 students will arrive on campus in the fall, but you and your IFS classmates will have the place largely to yourself until then. It's the perfect time to get to know the university, become familiar with the many resources and opportunities on campus, and get comfortable in this amazing and beautiful college environment.
