Indiana University Bloomington
Intensive Freshman Seminars

Student Staff

Student staff members play a critical role in helping new freshmen adjust to campus by showing them what it takes to succeed at IU. Each fall we recruit IFS alumni and other student leaders to help with behind-the-scenes details of the next summer’s IFS.

In return for their help, staff members gain experience in a significant student leadership role. Staff members also develop a deeper connection to the University by working as representatives of IU and of IFS. In addition, they have a great deal of fun working with other staff members, the faculty, and the new freshmen!

IFS Student Staff Positions

IFS Resident Assistants (RAs) work as a team to engage new students and build community in a variety of ways. They also work closely with Interns to support the academic experience.

IFS Interns collaborate with faculty to meet the needs of first year students in and out of the classroom. They also work closely with Resident Assistants to build a strong community environment.

Students applying for Intern positions will need faculty approval. First, submit your online application. Then, if you already know a former IFS faculty member with whom you would like to work, you may contact that person directly to make him/her aware of your interest in becoming an Intern. Or, if you do not know any former IFS faculty, we will work with you to make those connections.

To learn more about both RA and Intern positions, please download the descriptions below and read the FAQ.

IFS continues to incorporate sustainable practices into our work, and will be accepting online applications only.

Apply by Wednesday October 31 for consideration in our first round of hiring. Interviews will begin in November.
