ARTX Integrated Studio on the Social Fabric of Collections
Let your curiosity soar as you dive into behind-the-scenes museum collections from all over the world!
Students will have a chance to attend field trips to eight different collections in order to define fields of study which actively play part in art practice, yet require ingenuity and expertise. These field trips will enable students to see the roles of a worker, by looking at the history of the uniform at the Sage collection. We will tour the Jordan Greenhouse to take on the role of Botanist and ecologist, become an anthropologist by looking at basketry and textile collections at the Mathers museum, and become a genius of perception and space when seeing items of the puzzle collection at the Lilly Library. Each day will prompt a new destination and a new expertise which allows you to have an interdisciplinary welcome to the dynamic knowledge at IU. These areas of focus will be related to artist practice and enable students to better understand how in contemporary art practice, artists use research in combination with ideas to build new histories and radical new ways of thinking.
Many of the destinations above will incorporate the artist walk in order to captivate the walker as thinking, navigating, retelling and rerouting collaborations and order.
