This course helps new university students understand and adapt to the diverse and cooperative college society, with a focus on cultural identity. It aims to educate students about different cultures, cultural identities, and cultural stereotypes, and prepare them for university life. Through exposure to real-life scenarios from the culture of the Middle East, critical and analytical readings, videos, seminars, and presentations, students will learn how to interact and cooperate with people from different cultural backgrounds, appreciate cultural diversity, and engage in dialogue and discussion in an atmosphere of academic freedom. The course emphasizes the importance of cultural identity and helps students make a safe transition to university life as they become a part of the college society that values diversity and cooperation. 

This course is eligible for honors credit through the Hutton Honors College.

Professor Alramadan received her Ph.D. in Araic Linguistics in 2007 from the Universite Jean Moulin in France. She is a specialist in teaching Arabic as a foreign language and is versed in Arabic grammar and morphology as well as Arabic literature. In addition, she has studied the language of Arabic science heritage and Arabic medical terminology. Professor Alramadan teaches intermediate, advanced, and global classroom and content classes such as Arab women and Arab culture through music. Dr. Alramadan is the director of the cultural and co-curricular activities at the Arabic flagship, and she has been the director of the Arabic summer program since 2019. She led many workshops in language pedagogy, and She received many awards.  She likes jogging, cooking, and playing with her dog Lucy. She also loves social media.

Dr. Attia Youseif is a Senior Lecturer, and the Director of the Tutoring in Arabic Flagship Program at Indiana University, he is also the Social Media Manager of IFLTA. He earned his PhD in Linguistics from Alexandria University and has a wealth of experience in academic settings both domestically and internationally. His scholarly contributions include numerous research papers and books. His research interests encompass various aspects of linguistics, including sociolinguistics, applied linguistics, and second language acquisition. He also prioritizes promoting modern pedagogical approaches in language teaching. He is highly regarded in the academic community and has received several awards.
