Together we can ruin the world or make it better. The purpose of politics is said to be the latter – to enable us to care for interests that we share in common and foster effective citizenship through civic engagement. By examining various definitions of “politics” and applying them to the current events, this course is intended to reflect on how important collective goals can be achieved and what obstacles, endemic to “politics,” get in the way of achieving them.

This course is eligible for honors credit through Hutton Honors College.

Professor Jacek Dalecki teaches a broad range of subjects, including American Political Controversies, Politics of Terrorism, Law, Classical and Modern Political Thought, and Anti-politics. His primary interests revolve around the relations between society and state, the mechanisms of political obedience, and continuities and discontinuities in political thought.
